Beowulf: An Epic Journey Through Courage, Character, and Faith

Image
Few works of literature have stood the test of time like Beowulf . This epic tale of heroic courage, sacrificial leadership, and the struggle between good and evil has inspired readers for over a thousand years. While Beowulf was written in a culture transitioning from pagan beliefs to Christianity, it offers rich opportunities for thoughtful discussion from a biblical perspective. Throughout this study, we will explore the historical background, literary elements, and enduring themes of the poem while comparing its worldview with the truth of Scripture. Our goal is not simply to read a classic work of literature, but to encourage our children to think critically, pursue wisdom, and recognize God's truth in every subject we study. We invite you to join us as we journey through Beowulf together, discovering lessons in courage, humility, leadership, and faith that continue to point us toward the ultimate Hero, Jesus Christ. Here is an animated version of Beowulf. It might be ...

Walking the Ancient Path: Our Gentle and Intentional Eighth-Grade Start

Image
There is something special about the first day of a new homeschool year. Fresh notebooks, sharpened pencils, and carefully chosen books remind us that another chapter is about to begin. This year is especially meaningful as we step into eighth grade—a season filled with growing independence, deeper conversations, and new opportunities to discover God's faithfulness through every lesson. While our plans are carefully laid, we know that the greatest goal is not simply academic success, but hearts that grow in wisdom, character, and a love for the Lord. We invite you to join us as we begin another year along the Ancient Path, trusting God to guide each step of our homeschool journey. Balancing the Feast and the Rhythm: Our First-Day Routine Our first morning doesn't begin with a strict schedule, but with a celebration. We kick off the day with a special breakfast completely chosen by the children. Gathered around the table, we start our morning basket routi...

Walking in Faith: A Family Journey Through the Book of James

Image
"But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."  - James 1:22 The book of James is one of the most practical and encouraging books in the Bible, inviting us to move beyond simply hearing God's Word to faithfully living it every day. Throughout this family Bible study, we'll explore what it means to trust God during trials, seek His wisdom, love others without favoritism, guard our words, and grow into mature followers of Christ. Whether you're gathered around the kitchen table, beginning your homeschool morning, or setting aside time for family devotions, our prayer is that this study will strengthen your faith, encourage meaningful conversations, and draw your family closer to the Lord. We invite you to walk with us through each chapter of James as we discover together what a life of genuine, active faith looks like. Our Prayer for the Group Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving us Your Word as a light for our path and a...

English Language Arts: 8th Grade Homeschool

Image
ELA Homeschooling from a Christian Worldview Before high school begins, eighth grade is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen reading, writing, and critical thinking through the lens of a biblical worldview. In our Christian homeschool, English Language Arts is about far more than grammar and literature—it is about pursuing truth, recognizing beauty, and cultivating wisdom. As students read timeless classics, analyze poetry, and develop their writing skills, they also learn to discern the ideas behind every story, comparing them with the truth of God's Word. Our goal is to equip students to communicate with clarity, think with discernment, and glorify Christ in both their learning and their lives. ELA has been the trickiest subject to plan for. Finding material that is taught from a Christian Worldview was very challenging. I have waded through gobs of curriculum, pre-reading content from publishers and found so much hidden information or political agendas hidden insi...

History of English Speaking People by Winston Churchill

Image
A Winston Churchill Book Study from a Christian Worldview One of the strengths of reading Churchill from a Christian perspective is recognizing that, while he highlights human leaders and events, Scripture reminds us that God is the ultimate author of history . Proverbs 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; like the rivers of water, He turns it wherever He wishes. The Birth of Britain  by Winston Churchill is the first book, in a series of four, that we are going to be using as the spine of our history curriculum. We purchased ours off Amazon here:  The Birth of Britain Geography is woven into our history study. So, we will be looking up places on maps as we go.  For the purpose of the blog, I am going to share these resources in a six volume set. Volume I – Britain Before England Introduction – Chapter 4 Introduction Chapter 1: Britannia Chapter 2: The Roman Province Chapter 3: The End of Roman Britain Chapter 4: The Lost Island Focus: Celtic Bri...

8th Grade Math & Science from a Christian Worldview

Image
Math & Science Homeschool from a Christian Worldview Finding a science curriculum that is taught from a creation standpoint was one of the first challenges I was met with, as a new homeschool mom. I am a first generation homeschool mom. The twins I homeschool are my youngest children of seven, and the only ones we homeschooled. In the beginning, I found many discrepancies with the content of the educational science curriculum, according to my own Biblical Worldview.  Answers in Genesis  helped me do my own research about science, as I studied books written by Creation Scientists. (I did not even know there was such a thing as a Creation Scientists 😏) Before I started teaching science, I didn't think this was such a big. Turns out it actually is. So, I'm pleased to not only have found a curriculum that aligns with our Christian Worldview, but also prepares the students for ACT, SAT, and CLEP tests, for math and science. The curriculum we will use from Middle Sc...

Image
Is aiah 40:29-31 KJV [29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. [30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: [31] but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. This morning I was thinking about how an advertisement for a Homeschool Teacher would go. If truly stated it would look something like this: Wanted: Homeschool Teacher Family seeking fun-loving, godly homeschool teacher. Applicants will provide total educational development, and daily care for children of multiple ages. The Homeschool Teacher will assume the following roles: cook, housemaid, administrative assistant, accountant, nurse, computer repair technician, athletic coach, social director, and will teach multiple subject areas across multiple grade levels. This is a full time position - approximatel...

Quick, Nutritious Breakfast for Homeschool

Image
Usually, the finishing touches I put on homeschool planning is meal prep and organizing my recipes, because the cafeteria lady is also me. I'm always looking for quick, nutritious breakfast meals that don't require a lot, so that we can get started with academics. Because our, "First Breakfast," is quick and small, the, "Second Breakfast," is where we make up. 😆 Seriously though, the ability to provide proper nourishment to my children has been my favorite part of homeschooling. I love serving them healthy snacks while they are calling on their brains to work hard.  Food is tied so heavily into what we do each day, and for that reason I'll have lots of blog posts about it. Today, I'm covering, "First & Second Breakfast." I created an online menu to use and share for meal planning. You can see it here & I hope it blesses you as much as it does me.    First & Second Breakfast Ideas Free Resource: These are the forms I created t...

Homeschool Planning 8th Grade with a Christian Worldview

Image
Eighth grade is an exciting bridge between middle school and the high school years. It is a season when students are developing stronger reasoning skills, greater independence, and a deeper understanding of God's world. As homeschooling parents, we have the unique privilege of preparing our children not only for academic success but also for a life grounded in biblical truth, wisdom, and godly character. In this series, I'll share how I plan an eighth-grade homeschool year with a Christian worldview at the center of every subject. From literature and history to science, grammar, and the fine arts, my goal is to cultivate a love of learning while helping students see that all truth belongs to God. Whether you're looking for curriculum ideas, scheduling tips, or inspiration for creating a rich and meaningful homeschool experience, I hope these plans encourage you as you faithfully equip your child for both the challenges of high school and a lifetime of serving Ch...

18 Summers

Image
Making Memories Instead of Chasing More "Be content with such things as ye have." Hebrews 13:5 You only get the privilege of 18 Summers to make sweet memories with your children before they begin cutting their own trail. Being intentional about how we spend our days, as we enjoy our 13th summer together, is really important to me this year. My homemaking career has spanned a lifetime. As the older children grew up, I started to understand the importance of making each day count with them, while they are in your care.  When I was a young mother, I would long for the days that I would be able to clean my home and it would actually stay that way. Not anymore, because I know that if there is nobody there to dirty the home, it means there is no one there to make sweet memories with. I am so thankful for dirty dishes and dirty laundry because it means the people I love were there to dirty them. ♥️ I coveted sweet memories with the children God entrusted to me much more ...

Constant

Image
It was bittersweet closing my Etsy store this year, and since then I've been reflecting back on the beginning of our homeschooling journey. Reflecting not only our homeschool journey, but also the growth of my children, myself and our lives in general. As much as our lives ebb and flow, I can see the constant thread of my God. I see how He has always been there patiently watching over and leading. So faithful and as constant as the earth spins and the sun rises and sets on us each day.  James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. When we first began our homeschool journey I knew that we needed consistency in our daily activity to keep us on track with academics and train the children in forming good living habits. Now as we are about to enter our last year of Middle School, we know exactly what ...
